Do you use Edmodo in your classroom? If you haven't, and you are a little unsure about what you're getting into, take a look at the links below to find out how easy this can be!
Getting Started
Edmodo is a secure online community that allows teachers, students, and parents to interact online to share assignments, grades, ideas, and to simply keep in touch. In order to understand the basics of this program view the PowerPoint below to learn what Edmodo can do for you! This slideshow was originally created to share with the staff at my school to motivate them to develop their own social learning platform within their clasroom communities.
Some of the benefits that I utilize are posting assignments and homework, storing websites in the library, connecting to communities to share ideas with teachers, creating badges to reward students, and developing calendars that allow both parents and students to see what is coming up.
Creating an Assignment
The video below will teach you how to create, grade and most importantly provide instant feedback to students on each assignment. It's very simple! Allowing families to see what students have completed or not completed and how they scored on each task is as simple as a click of a button.
Using the Library
Similar to Diigo, Edmodo contains a library. This library allows you to save any document from your computer that you would like to post to your students. Additionally, you can save educational links to websites that you want your children to view. The video below shows you how to save documents and links into your library as well as how to create folders to organize your files and how to share them in posts.

Joining a Community
An additional benefit to joining the Edmodo community is being able to network with other teachers. Once you create a teacher profile it allows you to browse over 100 different communities in which you can share ideas and ask questions. It's a great way to connect with like-minded individuals across the globe.
As you can see below, once you join the community you can post questions which start a thread that other members can respond to.
Rewarding Students with Badges
Want to find a quick way to reward students? Edmodo has you covered! Once you create a class you can assign badges that you have designed. By giving students recognition online it not only allows them to share their rewards with their families at home, but will inspire other students to strive to do better in order to recieve the badges of honor next to their own names. Select the link below to view a video that will show you how to create and assign badges.
Calendar
The planner section of the website allows you to create and share a calendar with all of your students as well as their families. When you create an assignment, the due date will be automatically placed on the calendar. You can also manually input events into the calendar. The benefits of this calendar are many, this paperless form of communication allows for an instant connection between you and your student's families. No more, "But I didn't know when it was due."

How to Sign Students Up
Before you get started you probably would like to know how to sign your students up as well. I recommend that you create a student account of your own so that you can experience the process yourself to better help your students. Below you will find a tutorial to help you with creating a student account. It's super easy!
